What is the Best Time of Year to Climb Ben Nevis?
You can climb Ben Nevis all year round, although in the winter, the temperatures can get very low and you’ll be battling against harsh winds, ice and snow. Easter can be a popular time of year, but it’s worth bearing in mind that it can still be very wintry at this time of year; read our blog on what conditions to expect on Ben Nevis in April. While this can be a great challenge, it is also tough-going and dangerous for newcomers to hiking. For beginners, the best time to climb Ben Nevis is during the summer and autumn. Most of the ice has melted by this point, the weather is calmer and you have much better visibility. The perfect time to enjoy the spectacular views from the peak!
Do I Need Experience to Climb Ben Nevis?
Ben Nevis is a challenging mountain, as it should be, being the tallest mountain in Britain. However, anyone who is in good physical condition can make it to the peak. While some trails (The North Face) require specialist knowledge and mountaineering experience, other trails (The Mountain Track) provide more accessible routes to the top. We wouldn’t recommend novices take on the harder tracks, but they certainly are able to make it the stunning views atop Ben Nevis.
What is the Best Ben Nevis Trail?
Ben Nevis is home to many incredible trails, from tough-going climbs to gentler hikes. In our opinion, the best trail is The Mountain Track, the most accessible path up to the peak of Ben Nevis. Walkable all year round, it provides incredible views, breath-taking scenery and the perfect choice for beginners. You can read our blog about the Mountain Track here.
