Hotels Near Ben Nevis: Recommended Accommodation for Climbers

When you’re setting out to climb on Ben Nevis, you want to be close by so you can set off early to get into the hills before sunrise. There are loads of hotels near Ben Nevis to choose from, and here we explore the best options for climbers.

Ben Nevis Inn and Bunkhouse

The Ben Nevis Bunkhouse is as close as you can get into the hills and is actually part way up the ascent of Ben Nevis. From Fort William station it is around a 30-minute walk, but this is 30 minutes you won’t have to walk in the morning as it takes you directly to the foothills of Ben Nevis. The bunkhouse is basic but it is arguably the best place to stay for climbers because of the easy and immediate access you will have into the hills. Remember to take some food to cook because you will be removed from the town and amenities.

Premier Inn Hotel

You can’t go wrong with a Premier Inn. This is a cheap and effective option for climbers as it is located in the centre of Fort William; however, it is not particularly suitable for those with a car. Getting a taxi from here to the Ben Nevis centre will get you close to the action and put you right in the foothills ready for your climb. For a touch of luxury and privacy, Premier Inn offers good value for climbers.

Alexandra Hotel

Alexandra Hotel is located on the outskirts of Fort William and is suitable for those who are driving to Fort William from further afield. With large shared rooms on offer and plentiful parking, this is a great place to sort your rack before heading into the hills the next day. It will also give you easy access to the pubs and restaurants for dinner. In the morning you’ll need to drive through and park in the foothills to save time, but then you’ll be right at the action to begin your ascent and head to your climbs.

Travelodge

The Fort William Travelodge is another good option for a cheap and cheerful night nearby Ben Nevis. It is closer to the hills than both the Premier Inn and Alexandra Hotel but is still a decent walk away from the start of the climb up Ben Nevis. This is a good choice for those wanting a decent shower and a comfy bed, but are also looking to keep things within budget.

Other Options

Of course, these are just a few of the options available. There are countless B&Bs, hostels, hotels, bunkhouses and campsites in and around Fort William, Glen Nevis and the surrounding areas. Rurally situated SYHA is another great example of a place weary climbers can rest their heads.
